Accomplishments
Bert's major accomplishments during
his tenure include, but are not limited to:
- Enacting Gwinnett's Clean Air
Ordinance (smoking ordinance), a version of which was later
adopted statewide, ensuring all citizens a safe and smoke-free
environment;
- Purchasing thousands of acres of
parkland and greenspace. Construction of the West
Gwinnett Park and Aquatic Center; Bryson Park (under
construction); major upgrades to Lucky Shoals, Best Friend,
Pinckneyville and other parks;
- Hiring hundreds of police and
firefighting professionals, reducing the ratio of citizens
to public safety personnel;
- A goal to bring minor league
baseball to Gwinnett which resulted in the Atlanta Braves'
AAA affiliate relocating to Gwinnett for the 2009 season.
